Look at this tree I saw the other day. Isn’t it cool? I love the way it’s green on the inside and then progressively more red as it moves away from its trunk. I caught myself staring at it for like 10 straight minutes before I took this picture. It’s nice to do that sometimes, to just take in the cool stuff that happens around us and reflect on the beauty in the wHEY COME BACK DON’T READ THAT ARTICLE ON THAT CRAPPY WEBSITE IT WILL JUST MAKE YOU ANGRY LOOK AT THE TREE
I’ve seen a few trees like this lately where I live, in Eastern Pennsylvania, where fall brings about this kind of colorful foliage. There’s one street near my house that had three bright red trees in a row and it was kind of overwhelming in a way, just to be driving by on the way to the store and be reminded thNO DO NOT GO SCROLL THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA RIGHT NOW THERE IS NO GOOD THAT WILL COME OF IT YOU’LL JUST END UP YELLING AT A STRANGER OR EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBER PLEASE LOOK AT THE TREE
I like the way the tree is just sitting there in that little strip of grass. That means someone planted it there on purpose many years ago. Did they know it would end up looking like this some fall day way into the future? It’s nice to think about everything that led up to the momenWAIT NO WHY ARE YOU TYPING ‘POLLS’ INTO THE SEARCH BAR DO NOT DO THAT LOOK AT THE TREE
The other thing I like about this tree is the impermanence of it all. It’s only going to look like this — the reds and greens blending into a stunning display of natural wonder — for a week or so before the leaves all fall off. There’s an important lesson here about appreciating things in the moment, about being happy about the thing in front of your face without letting your brain try to ruin it for you. I don’t even know exactly what color that is. Magenta? It’s like a red/pink/purple mix that’s hard to quantify. I like that nature just made it, without opening up a photo editing program to tinker with thSTAY WITH ME BUDDY EYES RIGHT HERE LOOK AT THE TREE

STUFF I TYPED
— my weekly Five Spot newsletter, which opens with an extended section on the upcoming show where Margo Martindale steals a bunch of maple syrup, and also features a picture of a chunky squirrel who was looking at me like a tough guy
— I also have an update to our previous coverage on an important matter: an arrest has been made in the $400,000 cheese heist
STUFF I CLICKED ON
— Teri Garr passed away this week, which stinks because Teri Garr was cool, but it did lead to the recirculation of her hilarious Random Roles interview with the AV Club, which served as another reminder that Teri Garr was cool
— good interview with Seth Meyers, who has always seemed like a good dude
— really dug this piece about how The Penguin brought in a team of blind people to make its excellent audio descriptions
— I do not fully understand what happened with the Timothee Chalamet lookalike contest and the chaos it caused, but I do appreciate that Defector tried to explain it to everyone
— otters dunking pumpkins
Enable 3rd party cookies or use another browser
— I have no clue if Landman will be any good but I do like that someone let Billy Bob Thornton and Jon Hamm do a show together
— inflatable planetarium heist
— Eva Longoria was a secret investor in the original John Wick movie and has doubled her money on it all
— good blog about Victor Wembanyama, who also took a picture with some of the Star Wars cast, which I really must insist you look at to understand how tall professional basketball players are
— lost Mayan city found by accident
— you are not allowed to be mean to Anna Kendrick, actually
— Presumed Innocent has a plan for season two, which is good because Jake Gyllenhaal deserves more opportunities to cook, and yes, this is mostly just an excuse to post this screencap again
Okay, that’s it for this week. Please subscribe and share and JUST LOOK AT THE TREE.
This past summer I did classic canadian lakeside vacation stuff with my kids, including what felt like hours and hours looking at cool rocks on the beach. My conclusion was I need to spend more time looking at cool rocks. If people aren't into the tree perhaps they might try a rock?
